MEET THE PASTOR
Bishop Herbert Vasco James is the 9th pastor of the greater Holy Trinity Baptist church, one of the historical black Baptist churches in Atlantic City. Bishop James who was appointed to the pastorate in March 1994, quickly forged a new path for the ministry of the Greater Holy Trinity Baptist Church while hold onto the strong values of the church reminiscent of the 1950s.
Bishop James who was brought up and baptized in the Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. Thomas O. Mills, served at three local churches after being license as a minister of the gospel; Mount Zion Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Reverend Robert Ellington and later Rev. Dr. Winfred J. Sanders, Calvary Baptist church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend Thomas B. Whitfield, and the Second Baptist church under the pastoral leadership of the late rev. Dr. Issac s. Cole.
Bishop James was ordained by the Middlesex Central Baptist Association and by the International Ministerial fellowship. He was elevated to the Episcopal Office of Bishop on Sunday August 10, 1997 in the Abundant Harvest fellowship of Churches where Bishop David g. Evans of the Bethany Baptist Church in Voorhees is prelate. Bishop James is the past Southern N.J. Jurisdictional Bishop of the Abundant Harvest Fellowship. He is past secretary of the Fellowship of Churches of Atlantic City and Vicinity and he was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Garden State Bible School where he also sat as registrar. Bishop James currently sit on the Bishop's Council of the Abundant harvest Fellowship of Churches and is the Vice President of the Fellowship of Churches of Atlantic City & Vicinity for 2009. Bishop James is an explosive preacher teacher who is the author of Mentoring Ministers, a help manual for new ministers. He is married to first Lady Sheila James who holds a Bachelors Degree in Voice and a Masters in Special Education. First Lady James heads the music ministry of the church. In addition to his ministry, Bishop James is a sergeant of police with over 25 years of policing experience.
